Zanesville Shortstop Signs With Salem International
In years past, Zanesville softball wasn’t necessarily known for sending athletes to the next level.
Times have changed.
For the second consecutive year, a talented middle infielder from Carrie Bunting’s Lady Devils has signed with a Division II school.
Morgan Smith inked a letter of intent to play for Salem International on Wednesday. SIU is located about two hours away from Zanesville in Salem, W.Va.
"I always wanted to have whatever high school I go to have a growing softball program from when I left," Smith said of her current team. "I want to inspire other players to work hard to get further in their softball careers."
Smith plans to major in biology at the private university, which is home to about 830 students. She plans on playing middle infield for the Tigers.
