Zanesville Trick or Treat night will remain on Halloween

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The city of Zanesville has always had trick or treat night on Halloween, but this year brought up some concerns.
The Zanesville City Council Member At Large, Joey Osborn, said a lot of people have come to her with concerns for the safety and well being of their kids when they head out for trick or treating.
“The concern is it that it can’t be moved later on a school night for various reasons – again baths, homework and appropriate bedtime for little ones and it’s getting dark and that’s also unsafe,” said Osborn.
Osborn conducted a public poll on Facebook and the results were half and half – 50% were satisfied with keeping beggar’s night on Halloween and the other half would like to see it be moved to a weekend. Osborn said she’s happy she can be a voice for the community.
“I enjoy this job and it was heartwarming that people could come to me with the concern even though it’s not a do or die situation and I could bring it forward and have their voices heard,” explained Osborn. “I think that’s really rewarding.”
The City Council meeting agreed to keep trick or treat on Halloween this year. It will be from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Osborn said in the years moving forward, they will try to come up with solutions to make sure children can have a fun and safe beggar’s night.
