ZHS Construction Moving Along
The new Zanesville City High School building project is moving forward and startng to take shape.
Some of the walls are up and the basic outlines of the new school are already in place.
New Construction Liason for the Zanesville City Schools Darell Lear says he’s impressed by the headway made so far.
“We’re coming along fairly well with it,” said Lear. “We’re kind of in a slow spot because of the way we’ve laid out the footers. We expect that to pick up in about four or five days and it’s really going to turn into high gear then. We’re going to have brick layers coming from all directions, so once it gets started, it’s going to be fine.”
The school’s cafeteria will also boast quite an intimidating face to visting teams on the football field–a colored glass silhoutte of Zanesville’s mascot.
“I saw part of the etchings last week,” he said. “It’s going to be stained glass and coated glass. It’s going to be 32 feet high on the north wall overlooking the stadium. It’s going to be the color of the devil head, red, white and blue. Its going to be awesome, it’ll be really neat.”
Lear says the project is a little behind on the projected schedule, but the construction workers are coming in saturdays to catch up.
He says they’ve shortened the school calendar, allowing for a bit more time for construction to be completed.
The school is projected to be finished and ready for the first day of school in the fall of 2010.
