Zombies Combat Hunger
Zombies invade Colony Square mall Saturday but it’s not to torture the living. They are taking a bite out of hunger.
Through the first-ever Zombie Walk at the mall, Zane State College and the operational therapy assistant program are working to inspire people to give back to others.
"We’re trying to raise awareness for the hunger that we have in our communities. People don’t really realize it, people see it on TV, different countries, but here in the U.S. we have this same problem but people don’t realize that," says Richard Steele, Vice President of the Student Senate at Zane State.
Zane State collected non-perishable items as admission to participate in the Zombie Walk. Steele hopes that people remember year-round that hunger is an ongoing issue in the community.
"Carry it on, don’t just think only during holidays people aren’t getting their food. Make sure they know that year-round there are people here that are hungry and starving that really need our help."
All items will be donated to local food banks. Costume-judging and prizes were also awarded to participants.
