ZPD Chief Coury: No Credible Evidence of Threat at ZCS

Zanesville Police Chief Tony Coury says his department spent Wednesday investigating a reported Facebook threat in the Zanesville City Schools and determined there is NO credible threat that currently exists. Chief Coury says they were contacted by Zanesville City School officials about the issue and brought in a student and her mother for questioning in connection with a Facebook post. Coury says the two were interviewed and the contents of their cell phones investigated. Coury says there was a lot of ” he said, she said” about the posts in question, but after consulting with the Muskingum County Prosecutor there was not enough evidence to file charges. Coury says students need to be aware of the posts they place on social media. He says 30 percent of the students did not show up for classes in the Zanesville City Schools and another 200 students did not go to school at Philo High School. He says if students see police officers at their school it’s not because something has happened, it’s to provide them a secure feeling.
