ZDP BldgZANESVILLE, Ohio- Local businesses are taking a proactive approach when it comes to the threat of an active shooter.

The Zanesvillle Police Department is teaming up with businesses to give them pointers and things to remember if faced in an active shooter situation.

“I think it’s important that everyone is mindful of their surroundings. Employees and employers need to know what they are going to do if something like this happens at there place of work. Put a plan together. Tell your employees to run. If you’re in another setting and you need to help other people, hide, lock doors and remain as calm as you can be,” said Captian Tony Coury.

Captain Coury said there are key things to remember when faced in any crisis.

“Remain calm. Call 911. Get as much information to the first responders as you can. Tell they what the person looks like. Tell them what kind of gun they had if know. If they leave what kind of car they have. The more information you can give to us it will help us find that person that’s doing the shooting,” said Coury.

Captain Coury said having an open dialogue about situations like this better prepares everyone. The goal is to make sure everyone makes it out alive.
