1 Person Dead after I-70 Accident
A crash on Interstate 70 Wednesday afternoon leaves one person dead and forces the closure of both westbound lanes.
The crash happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. in Guernsey County, six-miles east of Cambridge near mile marker 187.
According to troopers with the Cambridge Post of the State Highway on the scene, a Hartwig Transit semi-truck traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 went across the median and struck a Toyota Tacoma heading westbound.
The driver of the Tacoma was killed. A passenger in the vehicle was then taken to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center and later taken by Med-Flight to another hospital.
The driver of the semi-truck was transported by ambulance to Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.
The Ohio Department of Transportation had to re-route traffic off Interstate 70 for an extended time while the scene was cleared.
Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved. The accident is under investigation.
