ZANESVILLE, Ohio – An annual festival is making a return to the Dresden area.

The 12th annual Dresden Melon Festival is this Saturday, August 3rd at the Dresden River Park. The Festival features lots of different activities such as the Small Mouth Fishing Tournament, a 5K run/walk, craft show, lots of entertainment in the main stage area, and lots of food. They will even have a melon growing contest and a melon derby with cash prizes.

“It’s just good for the community spirit. It’s a great family event. There’s kids entertainment all through the day and in the evening, there’s fun music for the adults. It’s just a day with a little bit of everything,” said Mayor of Dresden, David Mathew.

Mathew said there are plenty of things to do and it’s a fun day for all. Admission for the event is $1 until 4 p.m. and $2 after 4 p.m. The proceeds from the festival will go back to the Friends of the Dresden Park and into village parks.

“And we started that and out of that effort the Dresden melon festival committee formed the Friends of the Dresden Parks. They do a lot of great things to support the Village of Dresden and to add to our parks and take care of them. So it’s a wonderful bunch of people,” said Mathew.
