Two Students Handed Out More Than 100 Blessing Boxes

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- What started off as just a class assignment turned into paying it forward and a blessing for the community.

On Friday, 2 students from the Mid-East Career and Technology Centers handed out more than 100 blessing boxes at The Salvation Army to help area families. Shelbie O’Neil and Tori Dennis partnered with The Salvation Army, Dollar General, and Christ’s Table.

“Two young girls from Mid-East early childhood education who came in and said they wanted to do something. And not do something small but they wanted to actually come in and make a difference. Make an impact to the community here in Zanesville,” said Program Director Dustin Redmond.

Redmond said the girls stressed the importance of making the blessing boxes an annual event. Enclosed in the boxes are items everyone should have easy access to like toilet paper, toothpaste, paper towels, cereal and blankets.

“The expressions on their face when they saw that there was blankets, gloves, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, body wash. They were extremely grateful because that’s not something you can just go anywhere and get. When the girls came up with this idea it was a trill to me,” said Redmond.

Redmond said he is proud of the girls work with the project. He says they plan to continue to volunteer with the salvation army even after they have completed their assignment.
