Dreier Scholarship

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A Zanesville High School student just received the 2019 Fred and Herman Dreier Foundation Scholarship.

Alexander Mealick is a recent graduate of ZHS and has been involved in many extracurricular activities from the Robotics Team, Student Council, and Junior Class President. Mealick said he was very excited to hear he is the recipient of the scholarship. The scholarship is for $40,000 and can be used towards books and tuition. He plans on going to Ohio University to study Industrial Engineering and says that after receiving this award he can pay it forward someday.

“One of the biggest things is that it encourages me and lets me know that there are people who want to help me as an individual become the best that I can be. And now that I can help turn that around and help somebody else be the best that they can be as well,” Mealick said.

The Fred and Herman Dreier Foundation was started in 2005 to encourage students of Muskingum County to pursue a degree in Engineering, Medical, Veterinary Science or Agriculture. The scholarship looks for students who showcase academic potential, high moral character, and financial need.

“It’s really a family giving to another family. I really like to emphasize that because my Great Uncles, Fred and Herman Dreier, were the ones who set up this Foundation, and they had a passion for area students, so this is only for Muskingum County students.” said Scholarship Family Representative, Kurt Dreier.

Mealick has also been active in his church and has volunteered through tutoring and mentoring. He starts his first day of classes at the Ohio University Main Campus on August 26th.
