Mid-East Career Center holds student-run flu clinic

ZANESVILLE, Ohio -Â It is that time of year again, as clinics across the area are starting to administer flu shots.
The Mid-East Career Center’s adult practical nursing student’s offered a friends and family flu clinic this afternoon, providing student’s with great practical experience.
Deborah Hall, an instructor at Mid-East, said the student’s started in August, and they are ready to put their skills to action.
“We offer this clinic every year, as a part of a way to get them started. It’s a benefit for our staff, as well as the students,” said Hall.
Flu shots are highly recommended by the staff at Mid-East, hoping to keep the community healthy. Flu season can vary, but influenza activity begins to increase in October, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“It’s important for us as healthcare workers to protect ourselves, because we are providing care to others, a vulnerable population, and trying to keep the community well,” said Hall.
This clinic was one of the first big accomplishments for the students. The staff hopes it will give them a boost of confidence as they continue to study throughout the year.
