2024 Election Deadline Details

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – 2024 is a presidential election year, which always means higher voter turnout.

Muskingum County Board of Elections Specialist Cheryl West shared some information about voter registration deadlines for the November 5th, general election.

“There are some deadlines coming up if people need to update an address change, a name change or if they want to register for the first time. And so the registering for the first time and also updating name changes and address changes need to be done by 9 p.m. on October the 7th, and that’s the cutoff for that if you want to be able to vote in the November election,” West said.

Absentee ballot application forms need to be completed and submitted to the board of elections office before absentee ballots will be distributed. Absentee ballots will not be distributed before October 8th.

“September 17th is National Voter Registration Day, and it’s the country’s largest voter registration drive,” West said. “If you read any information about that and you decide you want to update your voter registration, due to an address change or a change in your name, you can go to our website or the Secretary of State website. If you’ve never been a registered voter in the state of Ohio and you want to vote on November 5th, you need to come to the Board of Elections office in order to fill out your registration form.”

Voter information can be found online by visiting the Muskingum County Board of Elections or the Secretary of State’s website, where you can also verify that your registration information is listed correctly.

West also noted that political text messages, phone calls, letters and emails come from third party vendors, which are not affiliated with the board of elections.

The Muskingum County Board of Elections is in need of trained election workers to participate at the polling locations on November 5th. For more information about training and salary, you can contact the board of elections at (740) 455-7120.
