Z.F.D. helps Firefighter’s son battle Cancer

A local firefighter and his family receives help from the Zanesville Fire Department.
The Zanesville Fire Department is hosting a benefit dinner for their firefighter, Wesley Pennington and his family. Their son, Logan Pennington, battles Wilms disease. Firefighter Greg Brocklehurst said the fire department wanted to help the family by hosting this event.
“We all work together so closely for so long, 24 hours at a time,” said Brocklehurst. “So we become like family here and when something happens to any of us especially something that is to this magnitude, everybody pulls together and [we] want to do anything we can for one of us.
The Benefit Dinner is Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Zanesville Middle School from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Brocklehurst said all proceeds raised go towards the Pennington family; local businesses and residents have been making donations for the spaghetti dinner and Chinese auction.
“Going to Columbus quite often, when he’s not staying there they still have to take him back and forth every day sometimes for four or five days in a row then have a couple days off,” said Brocklehurst. “It’s for his medical cost and the cost of going back and forth [between] Columbus.”
Wilms disease is a form of cancer. Logan’s kidney and effected arteries have been removed. Cancer has been found in Logan’s lymph nodes and lungs. Brocklehurst said James Cancer Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital are working with the Pennington family for Logan’s Chemotherapy and Radiation treatments.
The spaghetti dinner is free, but the Zanesville fire department is accepting donations for the Pennington family.
“One of the businesses here in Zanesville is making t-shirts for us of course that has Logan referenced on it,” Brocklehurst said. “$8.00 for every t-shirt we sell does go to [the Pennington’s]”
