Portman Retains Senate Seat
Democrats fail to pick up a U.S. Senate seat as Ohio Republican U.S. Senator Rob Portman wins re-election over Democratic former Governor Ted Strickland.
Portman’s campaign kept Strickland on the defense running a well-funded campaign.
Portman highlighted Ohio’s economic struggles, which saw 350,000 jobs lost during Strickland’s governorship. Strickland blamed the job lost on the recession.
Portman served in the administrations of republican former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.
