Friday the 13th Celebrations

ZANESVILLE – Ohio For the first time in about 10 years, the Zanesville Kiwanis Club hosted the Friday the 13th Club.

Club members met to celebrate the day, as well as poke fun at a few Friday the 13th superstitions.

“We’re going to have a nice Kiwanis meeting, and then we’re going to celebrate Friday the 13th, make fun of it. It’s not a superstitious day, its a day to make fun of superstition,” said Kiwanis activity coordinator Larry Good.

Guests entered by walking under a ladder placed at the door and were greeted by open umbrellas, mirrors to break, and even a black cat. Members were also joined by James Burson, who spoke about superstitions in sports.

“When does your faith and your belief and your attitude become superstitious? And I think it’s when we’re hanging on to straws sometimes. I didn’t have any big superstitions, but as I looked at myself, I became more superstitious, like little things,” said Burson

Burson said that while he had a few preventative superstitions as a coach, his attitude determined a lot. He said that having a good attitude and being better prepared leads to lower levels of superstition.
