2nd Annual Paws & Claws Summer Jam
The Animal Shelter Society is holding its 2nd annual Paws & Claws Summer Jam fundraiser.
The event will take place at Muskingum County Fairgrounds on June 13. Shelter Executive Director, Jody Murray, said the Jam is one of the largest fundraiser’s the shelter hosts.
"The animal shelter is a private, non-profit facility, we’re not government funded, we’re not mandated by anybody," Murray said. "So we have to do a lot of fundraising to raise our own money for operation. It’s one of the times that we go out to the community, we have a lot of corporate sponsors, and then as well as our admission tickets that day go back to support the animal shelter and what we do everyday."
Murray said the shelter houses numerous homeless animals from around the area, and help from the community gives the shelter the opportunity to provide vet care, adoption services and other needs for those animals.
"Muskingum County’s very fortunate to have our shelter operating for the past 50 years, and it’s all done by events like this… donations from the community, our corporate sponsors, our volunteers. we’re just like any other non-profit, we’re completely dependent on the community to help us provide our services," Murray said.
There will be a cornhole tournament and live music, featuring the band DoubleCut, at the event. Gates open at 5 P.M. and there is a $5 cover charge.
