2nd Suspect Confesses in Elderly Slayings
A county sheriff says a second man suspected in the slayings of an elderly Ohio couple has confessed.
Twenty-nine-year-old Robert Clark was arrested early Thursday in Arizona after a high-speed chase. He has been charged with one count of murder in the slayings of 88-year-old Doyle Chumney and his 79-year-old wife Lillian. They were found dead in a burned out vehicle in rural Coshocton County.
Tuscarawas County Sheriff Walt Wilson made the statement at a news conference Friday that Clark confessed.
Clark and two companions had been the target of nationwide manhunt after a string of robberies last weekend in three states. The companions also were arrested Thursday but are not suspects in the slayings.
Authorities say a second suspect previously confessed to the killings. Clark’s alleged accomplice, 21-year-old Jeffery Stewart, was arrested Jan. 31 in Ohio. He has a $2 million bond.
