CROOKSVILLE, Ohio – When the early settlers along Moxahala Creek discovered nearby coal and clay, they began craftily producing functional pottery products that are coveted to this day.

For most of the 20th century, the Hull Pottery Company created their brand of sturdy stoneware products that today can make a fashionable style statement to any home.

Hull Pottery Association Vice President Randy Butchart detailed how the Hull Pottery Show offers vendors and collectors from around the country an opportunity to showcase and sell the many unique styles and products that were hand made by local employees.

“This is the 31st year for the Hull Pottery Association at Crooksville High School,” Butchart said. “What you might expect to see when you come (is) a lot of Hull Pottery. We have nearly 30 dealers set up with artware, dinnerware, novelty, all the different types of Hull that was made and collectors have collected and is now here for sale at the school.”

Hull Pottery Association Board Member Debora Del Valle explained that pottery styles evolved over the years as consumers shifted from rural farm lifestyles toward a more urban lifestyle along with how collectors are always looking for that one specific item, which will continue to serve, by serving as the perfect fashion statement in their home.

“I think everyone who likes Hull Pottery has a certain thing they’re looking for,” Del Valle said. “I in particular like a couple of different lines that go with my style of design in my house and so that’s what I look for. There are people who are looking for unusual, experimental pieces. There are people who are looking for dinnerware because as I mentioned, they use the dinnerware. And to see somebody set a table with some of it, it’s just lovely. So everybody has something that they’re particularly looking for that they like to collect.”

The Hull Pottery Show also serves as a reunion for the Hull employees and will continue Saturday, July 13th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside the air conditioned Crooksville High School.
