39th Annual Cake Auction Deadlines Approaching
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Small communities often find imaginative solutions toward finding ways to help their neighbors challenged with special needs.
Carr Center Executive Director Katie Graham explained how her organization is taking last minute entries for their 39th annual Cake Auction, which directly benefits community members faced with unique circumstances.
“April 14th, which is next Monday, is the deadline to be in the bid booklet,” Graham said. “We would love everybody to have their cake and incentive registered by the 14th so that we can have it in the bid booklet but some people wait and that’s ok. We’re never going to tell someone they can’t register late. You just won’t be in the bid booklet. But your cake and incentive will show up online.”
Local businesses and organizations donate a custom-decorated cake with an offer of their specialized goods and services attached as an incentive, to be auctioned to the public in order to raise funds for the Carr Center’s programs.
“You can participate in the cake auction itself,” Graham said. “We have a lot of volunteers. So if you wanted to volunteer at the cake auction you could just give us a call at the Carr Center, (740) 453-5417. We never turn anybody away either for volunteering cause we always need a lot of people. Whether it’s from pushing cakes out to the cars or passing out cake or working in the incentive room. So it is, when I say that this is a community event, it is a community event.”
The 39th annual Carr Center Cake Auction will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 23rd and Thursday, April 24th at the Colony Square Mall and will be broadcast on WHIZ AM-1240 and 102.3 FM as well as streamed online at whiznews.com.
The public will be offered two ways to bid during the auction, by text or by phone. And bid items as well as bidding information can be found online at the Carr Center’s website.
