4th Annual NWTF Fishing Fun Day
The Y-Bridge Chapter of National Wild Turkey Federation shared their love of the outdoors with others today.
The 4th Annual Fishing Fun Day allowed 20 people with special needs and their families to fish and participate in other outdoor activities.
“We just like to give back,” said organizer Mike Swiney. “Our committee is really people aware and we like to give back to people who can’t get out and enjoy what we like doing anytime. And we realize people can’t get out and do this any time, especially the handicaps.”
Swiney says the NWTF doesn’t have an area specifically for events like these, but the group is lucky enough to have many donations, from land to bait and tackle boxes.
“There’s a lot of people in the community that enjoy the outdoors and like to share it, especially with people that can’t get out and do it,” he said. “I’d rather do this than go myself. I enjoy seeing them catch fish and laugh and have fun.”
Those participating also had the chance to shoot at targets with crossbows and BB guns. The NWTF also sponsors a turkey hunt for the physically challenged in the spring.
