ZANESVILLE, OH – One young man is celebrating his birthday by helping others in need.

For the last 7 years for his birthday, James McCandlish has organized a food drive for Christ’s Table.

What started with just a few items has now grown to a goal of getting 900 items donated as well as $300 in monetary donations to those facing food insecurities.

“This means so much to me.” McCandlish said. “It truly does make my heart feel really good and the fact that it has grown is astronomical in my mind. Seeing it grow from just a few donations, at my birthday, to going into the school and getting thousands of items, it doesn’t even have words in my mind. The fact that it’s even happening is crazy.”

From now until the end of the month, you can take donations of non-perishable foods to either Christ’s Table or at First Christian Church, located at 3000 Dresden Rd.

McCandlish says he has a growing passion of helping out his community and this birthday food drive is just the beginning.

“My hope is that in the future to have some type of organization that not only helps with serving people food but also getting things like clothes, and I.D. or things of that nature.” McCandlish said. “And getting the resources to people that need it. But just having that growing passion really makes me thrive for this food drive, to hopefully see it grow in the future.”

You can drop your donations off at First Christian Church on Monday through Friday from 9AM until 4PM.

For more information you can reach out to either First Christian or Christ’s Table.
