9-9-9 Scholarship Golf Tournament

Nearly 100 golfers took part in the annual Jaycee 9-9-9 Tournament Sunday.

This event is held each year to provide a number of high school juniors and seniors with $1,000 scholarships. Jaycee Golf Course Manager Mitchell Bowman said the golfers play a total of twenty-seven holes in a 8 hour time-span and stop for food and drinks throughout the day.

“The Zanesville Jaycees, my staff and I get together and everybody that knows somebody that’s in business gets on the phone and asks for help. It’s all for a good cause for the high school juniors and seniors, mostly seniors graduating to help them in the on-going years of their college education,” said Bowman.

Bowman said nearly 70 students applied for the scholarship and they chose the winners based on their involvement in the community.

“We pick the winners by community service and of course academics makes a difference too. But a lot of it has to do with community service,” said Bowman.

Bowman said the next event the Zanesville Jaycees will begin to prepare for will be its ‘Annual Christmas for Kids Shopping Tour.’
