Ohio State Highway Patrol Plans Sobriety Checkpoint In Muskingum County

In the effort to maintain safe roads, local authorities will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in Muskingum County this weekend.

The three hour long sobriety checkpoint was announced early Thursday by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Lt. Matt Boyd told us they’re aiming to further educate the motoring public and bring awareness to the dangers of impaired drivers.

"Our overall goal in having the sobriety checkpoint is to just bring more awareness to the dangers of impaired driving to the general public and educated people. Anybody that we can deter from driving impaired has potential to save a life so that is our goal." Lt. Boyd.

Lt. Boyd said last year they reached over 500 people when they held a sobriety checkpoint with the city of Zanesville. Boyd told us, this year they are receiving extra support from other near by posts.

"When we have our checkpoint tomorrow we’ll have officers from the Marietta Post, Cambridge Post, New Philadelphia so they’ll come in and work with us for a few hours and help that way our other officers can be out on the roads still promoting traffic safety in other areas in the county and in Coshocton County as well," said Lt. Boyd.

Ohio State Highway Patrol will announce the exact location of the checkpoint Friday morning.
