Dog Pound Holds Its 1st Open House

The Muskingum County Dog Pound held its 1st outdoor ‘Open House’ Saturday with more than 20 canines up for grabs.

Dozens of area residents were out looking for a new furry four-legged friend.

"Actually, today we’re here to showcase our dogs and let the general public come and see what we do and how far we’ve come and we’re actually trying to work towards maybe getting a new facility so we’re just wanting to basically let everybody know the different things that is going on. We have different fundraisers and have people come in and maybe have a chance to adopt a dog and walk a dog with us," said Doug McQuaid, volunteer for the Muskingum County Dog Pound.

Volunteer McQuaid said the goal of this event is to show another side instead of the stereotypical view of a dog pound.

"To see that this facility is not a prison camp. This is not where dogs come and three days later someone don’t claim it or adopt it, it will be put down. This is a true, true adoption center. We are totally away from all of that atmosphere or thought. A lot of people don’t know that and have heard about things in the past and we don’t operate like that now," said McQuaid.

If you were unable to make it out but, are interested in adopting a pet visit the dog pound during regular business hours.
