ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the OVU checkpoint at Northpointe Drive has been successfully completed.
259 vehicles drove through the checkpoint Friday, 4 vehicles were diverted for sobriety testing including a vehicle which was emitting the odor of burnt marijuana.
“We had heard and seen a lot of good response from the community so we consider it a successful check point,” said
Ohio State Highway Patrol Lieutenant Matt Boyd. “Our primary goal with those is to just reach as many people as we can to warn them of the dangerous of impaired driving and deter people from driving impaired.”
In addition to the checkpoint, a multitude of traffic stops were conducted which resulted in several violations including the arrest of an impaired driver.
“The impaired driver was arrested during the saturation portion of the patrol. We actually had 22 traffic stops around the checkpoint. The Zanesville police officer that was working with us arrested the impaired driver,” said Lieutenant Boyd.
Lieutenant Boyd said the highway patrol will increase the number of patrol during Memorial Day weekend.
