Friday state track & field: French & Cutlip steal the show

Area athletes turned in strong showings at the first day of the state track & field championships from Jesse Owens Stadium.

Lakewood’s Mat French won the D-II boys shot put, while Buckeye Trail’s Kylie Cutlip finished runner-up in D-II girls long jump. Cutlip stole the show on the track, running the best qualifying time in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles with a record-setting showing in the latter. Her teammate, Emily Paden, earned All-Ohio honors in pole vault with a third-place finish.

Granville’s Natalie Price finished with the top qualifying time in the D-I girls 400 and also qualified for the finals in the 100.

In MVL action, Maysville’s Kyler Hooper finished 8th in shot put, Maysville’s Chase Himmelspach finished 5th in pole vault and Sheridan’s Ethan Tabor came in 8th in long jump.
