Locals Celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day
June 5th is known around the world as a day to celebrate of life.
It’s National Cancer Survivors Day and each year the folks at Genesis Cancer Care Center host a special event for area cancer survivors, their friends, and family.
“When people go through chemotherapy and different types of treatment for cancer they meet other people here at the Center that are undergoing the same type of treatments and and they form a bond. So, it’s a chance for those families to meet other families that have undergone the same treatments,” said Karen Wickham, Research Nurse, Genesis Cancer Care Center.
Cancer Survivors received gifts and took pictures with their loved ones in a fun factor photo booth. RN, Carrie Lee said the overall goal is for the survivors to have a fun and stress free day.
“It’s a national celebration that we’re celebrating survivorship of a patient and we tell patients that they become a survivor the day they’re diagnosed. Anytime passed that, that you can celebrate with them and the families is very important,” said Carrie Lee, RN, Genesis Cancer Care Center.
