Zanesville Muskingum County Health Dept Will Host Project Dawn
ZANESVILLE, Ohio– The State of Ohio is making an effort to decrease the number of Ohio lives claimed by unintentionally drug overdose.
Project DAWN is a part of a campaign to raise awareness about the signs of drug overdose. Participants are shown how to administer the life saving drug Naloxone. Muskingum Behavioral Health CEO Steve Carrel said having Naloxone kits are just as vital to the community as first aid kits and fire extinguishers.
“Unintentionally overdoses are happening at higher rate than traffic fatalities in the United States,” Carrel said. “The kits from Project DAWN comes with two doses. The idea is does one is after you called 911, it’s going to slow down or stop the overdose. If the person has [too much drugs] in their system, they start sliding back into overdose there’s a second dose. The thinking is by then first responders are there and they can take over.
Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department will host the next Project DAWN on June 23th at 5:30 p.m.
“Call. Register come to the program. There’s no cost what so ever. The kits are also available at Walgreens and Kroger, those are two of the pharmacies listed that are participating and distributing Naloxone without a prescription. The more of these kits we can get into people’s hands the better,” Carrel said.
To register, call the health department at (740) 454-9741.
