ZANESVILLE, Ohio– The Zanesville- Muskingum County Health Department was training public swimming pools and spa operators on how to prevent water-borne illnesses.

More than 20 businesses participated in the swimming pool health and safety seminar. Presenter and president of Martinelli Pools and Spas Jill White hopes participants take information from this seminar back to their businesses.

“Hopefully they learned something new even if it was the basics,” White said. “A lot of times if it was the basics that they have down pat they’ll pick up new information, hopefully they will train their staff on, they’ll implement their logs, hopefully test their safely equipment. And [they’ll] be more prepared when the inspector does come out so that we don’t have to shut them down.”

White said two key things businesses should keep in mind are testing equipment and implementing a check off system.

“Whether you’re commercial [or] residential get your water samples tested from a professional. Even if it’s just once a month or once every other month. Make sure that everybody is on the same page and reading the chemicals the way they are suppose to be,” White said.

Participants learned about pool safety, critical violations, and pool chemistry during the seminar.
