17th Annual ‘Quinn Family Bash for Recovery’

Zanesville, Ohio- The 17th Annual ‘Quinn Family Bash’ for recovery took place Friday.

The afternoon party is held annually to celebrate recovery from mental illness or addiction. Paul Quinn said the idea behind the bash started in 1999 when Quinn’s family was thinking of ways to do something special to celebrate people in their efforts to recovery.

"We asked my brother and he said, if you have a mental illness you tend to not have much fun and usually isolate yourself. My brother said if there is something that we can do that would be fun for the mental health community that would be my suggestion. So my father being the brilliant man that he is says, you know we’re all musical, why don’t we put on a show for the mental health community," said Paul Quinn, President, National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Paul Quinn said 16 years ago his brother Pat Quinn was facing his own heroic battle from schizophrenia. We were able to talk to pat and he explains how having the support from his family helped his journey to recovery.

"I used to lead groups in the Psychiatric Ward of Bethesda and a lot of people don’t have anywhere near the support that I have. I am so grateful of all of Gods gifts I think maybe my family’s support the best gift I’ve ever received in my whole life," said Pat Quinn, Vice President of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

The entertainment at the bash was prepared by the Quinn Family Singers.
