Zane State Hosts Five-Day Summer Manufacturing Camp for Muskingum County Students
Zanesville, Ohio- Students between the ages of 11 and 14 are exploring career options within the community, touring manufacturing facilities, and learning from experts.
Katie Schafer, Workforce Solutions Coordinator, Zane State College, said that the goal of the five-day summer camp is to get kids interested in manufacturing careers that are offered within the area.
“There are so many good opportunities in our area as well as Cambridge. There are a lot of great jobs and careers in manufacturing. We are trying to help show kids that they could get a good job that’s safe and is a well paying career.”
Schafer said that each day student’s will be touring a different manufacturing facility and will then spend the remainder of their day working on manufacturing activities.
“This afternoon they are building a speaker with construction paper, styrofoam, bowls, and magnets.”
She also said that they do a larger take home project at the end of the week.
“This year students will be wiring and making their own lamps. We are also making bristle bots, which are toothbrush robots.”
On Tuesday, students will be visiting Plaskolite Inc.
