Local Food Bank Provides food to Hundreds

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Nearly 10,000 pounds of food was handed out to local residents on Wednesday.
Accel along with the Mid-Ohio Food Bank hosted it’s second monthly Free Farmers Market at Ohio University- Zanesville campus. Volunteer, Jason Schroeder explains how this is beneficial to the local community.
"So many of us that have a gap between how much money we make and how much money we need to feed our family. Events like this help to provide food and help to fill in that space to help make sure people have enough to eat so they have food security," said Schroeder.
Schroeder said they served around 200 households the during the first free farmers market and today they expect to exceed that amount.
"So far today, I’ve already registered over 200 households already and there’s a line of people waiting to still get registered. As far as the number of people that we’re serving I’ll say we’re very happy with how many people we’re getting for sure. I honestly hopes that the food holds out so that we can serve everybody," said Schroeder.
Schroeder said the next event takes place Wednesday, August 3rd at Ohio University- Zanesville campus in the Campus Center.
