Mayor Proclaims May ‘Motorcycle Awareness Month’
We’ll see a lot more motorcycles on the roadways as the temperatures rise…And one local group wants to promote safety between bikers and drivers.
Mayor Jeff Tilton proclaimed the month of May in Zanesville and Muskingum County as "Motorcycle Awareness Month", and the American Bikers Aimed Toward Education (A.B.A.T.E) were on hand to receive the proclamation.
"Our goal for the month of May is motorcycle awareness, and motorcycles getting back out on the road in the spring and we wanted to promote the safe riding of motorcycles, and with law enforcement’s help, we can try to keep everybody safe on the highways," said Russell Brooks, Deputy Director of A.B.A.T.E.
Representatives from the Zanesville Police Department, the State Highway Patrol, the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Department and a community ambulance were also in attendance.
"We need to make the riders aware and the drivers aware that the motorcycles are back out there and to start watching for them. We have saying, which is ‘Look twice, and save a life’ for the drivers of the cars and also motorcycles because as a motorcycle rider you need to look more than twice to make sure that it’s still safe."
Brooks went on to say that safety on the roadways is everyone’s responsibility.
