Pokemon Go Attracting New Crowds at Museum

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Pokemon Go uses a phone GPS to locate pre-selected landmarks to visit, collect Pokemon, and battle using your very own Pokemon against other users at what is called a “Pokemon Gym”.
Our very own Zanesville Museum of Art is one of these Pokemon Gym locations.
Laine Snyder, Executive Director at the Zanesville Museum of Art, said she had a very surprising experience with the amounts of people that were showing up to the museum from playing Pokemon Go.
“We have a summer camp at the museum called “Graffiti Camp” and the students and the instructor were outside and we were getting all of this additional traffic on a day that we are traditionally closed at the museum.”
Martha Pollock, our instructor asked, what’s going on? Why are all of you here? They then proceeded to say that they are playing Pokemon Go and that there’s a “Pokemon Gym” at our museum.”
She said that she is extremely excited about this game because it’s drawing in more people and a younger crowd to the museum that they haven’t had before.
“Being apart of this application is a real benefit to the museum because we are always trying to appeal to new and unique audiences and the younger generation. What I’ve come to find out that it crosses a lot of generations too. There are not only young people playing it, but people even my own age are playing it.”
According to Survey Monkey, Pokemon Go exceeds over 21 million daily users, which dethrones the popular Candy Crush game making Pokemon Go arguably the biggest mobile game in United States history.
