Sheridan Middle School Hosts Donkey B-ball

Residents of Somerset came up with a unique and memorable fundraiser Sunday afternoon…

Somerset United Methodist Church hosted Donkey Basketball at Sheridan Middle School Sunday. Teams played five-on-five, tournament-style basketball… While riding donkeys.

"We were brainstorming and I think it just kind of came out at a meeting, so… And then we went for it. There’s a, there’s a company close by there in Columbus and it just worked out, so," said organizer Julie Paxton.

The event also featured a silent auction and games for kids. The money will support a cause that’s close to the Somerset community.

"We’re building a community center for Somerset, where we have activities for older folks and younger folks, and because we love the children, that’s why we thought we would do something fun for the families today," said Somerset United Methodist Church Pastor Sharon Hausman.

The center will be 6,000 square-feet and home to a variety of community activities.
