ZHS Alumni Association Memorial Day Walk
A new fundraiser is reviving a tradition dating back to the Civil War era.
The Zanesville High School Alumni Association is organizing a Memorial Day walk. Committee co-chair Ron Bucci said the objective is to honor our fallen soldiers and veterans of all wars.
"Memorial Day is not a day for vacations," said Bucci. "It’s a day to remember them. This is a special day that we set aside. The ZHS Alumni Association thought it would be a good idea to just walk for them."
A balloon release will recognize the nearly 300 WWII and Korean War heroes from Muskingum County who lost their lives. Committee co-chair Jeff Dittmar said all proceeds will benefit the ZHS Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, which encourages students to pursue higher education.
"It’s special to me for two reasons," said Bucci. "I was in the class of 1965 at Zanesville High School, and we had 67 classmates pass away. Some of them were really good friends, so it’s a twofold for me, because I have a couple of good buddies that passed away in Vietnam."
The event will take place on May 28th at Zanesville High School Sulsberger Stadium.
