Fallen Officers Remembered in Memorial Service
Sunday marks the beginning of National Police Week, which recognizes the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officials.
A Peace Officer Memorial Service was held Saturday at Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5, to honor the memory of fallen officers, including the father of Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz, who died on the job.
"It brings up a lot of memories. I remember when the sheriff’s father passed away… I was a little younger then, worked in a different county. I never met the man, but now, coming here every year and seeing his name on that memorial, you know, it’s… emotional," said Randy Wilson, F.O.P. Vice President.
Since January of this year, no officer fatalities have been reported in the state.
"It doesn’t matter what color uniform they wear or what their car looks like. You know, when someone needs backup and help, we’re all there for each other."
Muskingum County Assistant Prosecutor Maria Kalis was one of Saturday’s speakers. She thanked local law enforcement for their effort during last year’s exotic animal release.
