Boy Scouts and AMVets Honor Veterans Together
Organizations are teaming up to honor American veterans this Memorial Day weekend…
The American Veterans (AMVets) Post 1992 and Boy Scout Troop 158 placed an American flag at the tombstone of every American veteran in Greenwood Cemetery. Commander Jeff Dittmar said it’s important for the scouts to respect what our veterans sacrificed.
"We did something that we feel was the right thing to do, was to go out and protect our country. And we feel as though these Boy Scouts, they’ve been excellent to work with, and you can tell that they’re taught something at home, which is really good," said Dittmar.
The American veterans and Boy Scouts shared the cemetery with the Marine Corps League. Dittmar said Memorial Day is about reflecting on a legacy.
"We older guys, we’re going to be gone someday, and if there’s nobody to continue this tradition, maybe graveyards will never be covered."
Flags will also be placed at Woodlawn Cemetery by VFW Post 1058 and at Memorial Park by the American Legion.
