Divers Search Area Pond

Divers were searching a Buckeye Lake waterway Wednesday afternoon after concern a child may have drowned.

The Buckeye Lake Village and Millersport Fire Departments, along with the Licking County Dive and Rescue Team responded to a retention pond at the Leisure Village Mobile Home Park around 4:30 p.m.

"The bystanders found some shoes and candy along the shore and we just had to make sure there was nobody in there," says Cpt. David Ruton, Buckeye Lake Village Fire Department.

Divers searched the pond off Walnut Road and luckily did not find anything.

"Nobody wants to find a child or even an adult days after something happens that they’ve been in a pond, so it’s just best that we do what we have to do to get the job done," says Ruton.

Captain Ruton says authorities located the child who owned the shoes and the child said the shoes had been stolen.
