North Pointe Road and Raiders Road Bids During County Commission Meeting

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Commissioners opened bids Thursday for two upcoming road projects; one on North Pointe Road and the other on Raiders Road.
The plans for North Pointe Road involve pavement planing, asphalt recycling and resurfacing, along with new pavement markings. Improvements for Raiders Road include asphalt resurfacing and pavement markings as well. Muskingum County Engineer, Mark Eicher said with the conditions of the roads, it is critical they follow through with these improvements.
“The condition of the roads warrants that we resurface them. And we were lucky enough to have multiple grants in place this year, we’re doing a lot of paving, and majority of it is all through the grant process,” he said.
The bids for North Pointe came in more than 10 percent over the estimate. Eicher mentioned they will need to reevaluate the project before they can award it. As compared to Raiders Road which did not go over the estimate, and will be awarded fairly soon provided they have all the documentation.
“For North Pointe we have to reevaluate the whole process. Go back, evaluate if we’re going to stay with the exact same project that we put out, and rebid that project. Or whether we’re going to take something away to try to get it a little closer. You know take a half inch of asphalt off to try to get it a little closer to our estimate,” he said.
Eicher added that another option for the North Pointe project would be to raise the price of their estimate and rebid it to the proposals they were given at Thursday’s meeting.
