ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Electrical power has been restored to residents on the South end of Zanesville after service was shut off due to a natural gas outage in the area.

For cautionary purposes Columbia Gas made the decision to shut down their system after an equipment malfunction occurred yesterday. AEP crews shut off their service as well, to ensure the safety of customers and crews. The electric restoration process was a first priority, but the focus now is getting the gas service restored as soon as possible. Columbia Gas Communications Manager, Dave Rau said they have crews reenergizing their main and putting gas back into it which takes several hours to complete. Crews are also doing a safety inspection of all gas appliances in customer homes and making sure there are no leaks within any of the gas lines.

“We also want to make sure that all of the gas appliances are operating safely. So our team will be looking at each of those appliances, checking them to make sure that they’re safe. Again, if we find an issue that we can quickly resolve we’ll do it there. If not, we may have to leave service off until that issue can be resolved,” he said.

Columbia Gas crews all over the State are going to be working through the weekend to have gas restored as quickly as possible. Updates on the restoration process can be found on Columbia Gas’ website, www.columbiagasohio.com , and social media pages.
