STARS Camp Teaching Lifeskills to Teens
A Muskingum County Organization is helping to build life skills for teenage girls.
The STARS Institute for Young Women is hosting a 3-day camp for girls at the Campus Center of the Zane State/OU-Z Campus.
Executive Director Cindy Brandi said after teaching middle school students for over 30 years, she wanted to help young girls learn the skills they need to be successful in life.
"This gives them an opportunity to make a lot of friends and to value themselves and make better decisions regarding their social life, their education– all things that are really going to make a difference down the road for them," said Brandi.
The camp includes over 17 different sessions including cooking, sewing, yoga and self defense.
"I have a couple of people who come in that are black-belts and teach the girls how to first of all, use common sense about where you go and what you do to not put yourself in a dangerous situation and then to know how to know how to defend yourself if somebody does come after you," added Brandi.
Brandi said funding for the camp comes from various grants and donations from area businesses.
