NAMI 12 Week Family to Family Course

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The National Alliance on Mental Illness is offering a course to members of the community on how to cope with mental illness.
NAMI Six County is hosting a family to family education program this Fall. The program is a 12 week course providing assistance and information to families and friends of individuals dealing with mental illness. The classes will start on September 10th, and meets every Tuesday evening through November 26th. The course helps them understand their loved ones and gives them tools to move forward.
“So NAMI has a class that we’re offering that would allow people to skip some of that confusion and lost time that we experienced. And be able to address their loved one’s mental illness head on and a more effective manner,” said NAMI Six County President, Paul Quinn.
The family to family course is taught by trained family members of individuals with mental illness. The entire course is free to participants including materials and resources. Participants will learn communication techniques and skills related to managing situations and solving problems.
“The class is taught by fellow family members who have been through similar experiences and their trained by NAMI to deliver the content. There’s some lectures, there’s some interaction, there’s some role playing especially in terms of maybe communicating with your loved one with a mental illness,” added Quinn.
The course will be held at the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board at Coal Run Road. To register you can contact Paul Quinn through the NAMI Facebook page. Class size is limited and the registration deadline is September 6th.
