Upcoming 4th Annual Recovering our Community Event

Recovering Our Community

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A free community event is making an impact by recognizing recovery.

The 4th annual Recovering Our Community event is on Wednesday, September 11th at the Secrest Auditorium. Attendees will be able to learn about how addiction impacts the family and how to demonstrate the stages of recovery. There will also be resource tables providing information on recovery. The keynote speaker, Katie Donvan, will then speak on her personal experiences with the recovery process.

“September is recovery month so we try do something like this every year,” said Community Advocate for Drug Free Muskingum, Monica Batteiger.

“Focusing on the positive, the recovery aspect. In the past, we’ve focused on the disease or education of the disease. So this year, I think we’ve come a long way in this community and we want the community to see where we’ve come from,” she added.

All community members are welcome to attend especially those who are affected by addiction. And health care professionals who work with the addicted population. Executive Director of Perry County Behavioral Health Choices and emcee for the event, Theressa Snyder-Kane said the purpose is to offer hope and teach people about recovery. She says that is the way to overcome negativity and stigma.

“The event is really going to bring to light how people in recovery can have a positive impact on the community. How families can heal, and how families can recover, and treatment does work. So there’s a positive message,” said Snyder-Kane.

Doors open at 4 p.m. with resource tables and refreshments until 6. The event runs until 8 p.m.
