Dogs Competition at Field House

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — A competition among dogs played out at the Fieldhouse in Zanesville Friday.
“It’s a lot of fun, obedience is good, it’s a good place to start. But what a lot of people do is they end up moving over to agility because it’s a more active sport. People find it’s just sort of fun to run with their dogs; their dogs think they’re playing more than anything else,” says Glenn Rawsky, AKC Licensed Agility Trial Secretary. “This is what is called a jumpers with weaves course, which means it has jumps, it has weave poles in the very back of the ring. It’s a series of poles; the dogs have to do a slalom just like a skiier would. There could also be tunnels in this course, there just happen to not be any today. They start at the front right, goes in a defined sequence with the cones that they have to go through, then the finish is over here.”
The entry fee is between $15 and $20 per run. Prizes include earning points toward titles for dogs, as well as dog toys and treats. People from Zanesville, Columbus, Parkersburg, Marietta and other regions took part Friday.
