2012 Quilt Gathering

An old-time tradition is hitting the Muskingum County Fairgrounds this weekend.

The quilt gathering show and expo showcases a multitude of quilts and other handcrafted and needlework projects. The bi-annual event brings exhibitors from as far as Texas.

"We’re hoping to see maybe about a thousand people go through this year. The whole object of this show is to show off our talents, inspire people to quilt maybe take lessons or finish that quilt that’s been laying around for several years," said Sherry Gillespie, Quilt Gathering Chairwoman.

In addition to the quilt showcase, a quilt will be raffled off, door prizes will be awarded, and the event will include a silent auction. There will also be workshops and demonstrations. The Pieceable Quilters Guild coordinated the show and they’re also celebrating their 25th anniversary.

"It really is a source of accomplishment. Plus as you walk around, and look at all the quilts you realize how much our guild has and what great craftswomen we have here in our guild," said Connie Fink, Pieceable Quilters Guild member.

The expo wraps up Sunday at the Veterans Complex at the Fairgrounds.
