Firefighters Wanted in Zanesville

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Those with a calling to protect the community have the opportunity to do so by becoming a Zanesville City Firefighter.
Chief Jeff Bell says
that applications are being accepted through this Thursday at
www.coz.org.
“I think we
attract the same kind of people because everybody that works with me
that we’ve worked with that go into the fire service—or event the
police department—they want to help people. So, those are the
people we’re looking for; we’re looking for the people that want
to help others, that want to be—you know—make a difference in
their community. And, we want to get the word out because we also
want our fire department to reflect the community that we protect.
So, we do want to encourage minorities, we want to encourage women to
come out.”
There are currently
52 firefighters in the city of Zanesville and those ages 18 and older
are welcome to apply for open positions. Keane Toney, Public Safety
Director, says that firefighters play a key role in every community.
“Firefighters have
always played a major role in the livability of communities, how
communities rate as far as their insurance ratings, and how safe they
are. What people tend to forget is the fire department—they’re
always here. They are always here. And, it’s so much more than
fighting fires; they handle so much more than that. So, they play a
great role in keeping a community strong and building the future for
the community as well.”
After submitting an
application, applicants will undergo a written test and a physical
fitness test on November 23 at Zanesville High School.
