Richard “Dick” Matthews, 1951-2019

Richard “Dick” L. Matthews 68, of Zanesville, died 11:37 PM, Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at Genesis Hospital. He was born October 24, 1951 in Zanesville, the son of Paul Matthews and Norene (Claypool) Matthews.

Dick retired from Brockway Glass following over 42 years of service. He enjoyed riding his Harley, fishing, hunting and woodworking. He was an auxiliary member of Newton Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of several organizations and loved to provide smoked pork for many events. Dick was a loving and caring father and grandfather who enjoyed the time he spent with them, especially watching his grandchildren play ball.

Dick is survived by a daughter: April (David) Lovejoy of Mount Perry, and a son: Joe (Todd Hensley) Matthews of Zanesville; five grandchildren: Clayton Baker, Sarah Lovejoy, Gavin Baker, Emma Lovejoy and Brodey Hensley; his girlfriend Heidi Smith; her son: Colt A. Smith; her grandchildren: Aubri Smith and Brendon Hill and one sister, Marla Parr.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by two siblings, David Matthews and Myla VanWey.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 14, 2019, at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Herbert Hicks officiating.
