Muskingum Co. Deputy Transported After Crash, Cruiser Hit by Car Not Yielding

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — A Muskingum Co. Sheriff’s deputy has been involved in a crash on U.S. Route 40 in Falls Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The Patrol says the crash happened this afternoon at 2:34pm.
Cheryl Pope, 69, of Zanesville was in a 1998 Chevrolet when she entered U.S. 40 from a private drive and did not yield to oncoming traffic, the Patrol says. The unnamed deputy was traveling east on the highway when the collision occurred about eight miles east of the Muskingum/Licking County line.
Pope and her passenger, Vicki Joslin, 50, of Zanesville, were both rushed to Genesis Hospital by Falls Twp. EMS.
The Patrol says all parties involved were wearing seat belts. Alcohol and drugs are not considered factors in the crash at this time.
Falls Twp. Fire/EMS, Muskingum Co. Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the wreck.
