Crime Stoppers Watch Recruiting
Muskingum County Crime Stoppers Watch is reaching out to surrounding counties to make southeast Ohio a safer place.
The organization spent the day recruiting new members at the Muskingum County Fair. Founder Don Jones said Crime Stoppers Watch has expanded to Perry, Morgan, Coshocton and Guernsey Counties.
"Our organization reports suspicious activity involving vehicles and people to try to prevent crime," said Jones.
The group works closely with the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office. About 4,500 residents have joined the effort so far. Jones said he created Crime Stoppers Watch when a wave of criminal activity hit too close to home.
"I had enough," said Jones. "In other words, we had crime in my own neighborhood. I’ve lived there 30 years or so. The rental homes started having crimes and drug problems. My neighbors and I decided that we didn’t like that, so we started forming it."
